Georgian Under 15’s to Tour Vienna and Corsica

On April 22-May 2 Georgian Under 15 national team will take part in two international tournaments. Our Under 15’s first took part in Vienna and Corsica tournaments in 2009: during these half-competition half-festival rugby events they defeated national and regional selection teams from Belgium, Argentina, South Africa, New Zealand and France, and won a tourist trophy.

Due to previous success, Georgian Under 15 team received invitation this year as well. Vienna/Corsica tournament has a symbolical name – “Overture” (initiation) – tournament organizers assemble senior age-grade players (just about to move on from youth festivals to junior competitions) from all over the world and treat them to a rich cultural program and a magnificent rugby festival – a colorful way to welcome the “ageing” youth rugby players and introduce them to competition-based game.

On April 22-25 Georgian Under 15 team will play in the French city of Vienne, and on April 29-May 2 – in Corsican towns Cassinca and Monticello; they will meet numerous opponents, including teams from elite rugby nations. Our team aims at defending the tourist trophy. In both tournaments, pool stage winners will meet in playoffs. We do yet not know the composition of our pool. As per tournament regulations, all matches are 14 minutes long except the final, which lasts 20 minutes. Pitch size will be 5 meters less than standard in length and width; the teams will be composed of 12 players: five forwards, one scrum-half/fly-half and six backs.
