Georgia World Cup squad

22-Aug-2011

Georgia national team head coach Richie Dixon has named final 30-man squad for the Rugby World Cup in New Zealand on August 20.

Two players missed out from the squad that, since July 18, has undergone world cup preparations in France - there was no place left for third-rower Zviad Maisuradze (‘Lokomotivi’), and number 9 Giorgi Begadze (‘Khochebi’).

Both were forced out because of injuries - Zviad Maisuradze harming his knee during a match with ‘Aurillac’, and Giorgi Begadze receiving a hand injury.

However, the news of French Clermont’s leading international Davit Zirakashvili suffering a knee sprain was dismissed by national team manager Vasil Abashidze. Several foreign news-sources attributed Zirakashvili’s absence in a friendly against ”Bourgoin” to his possible injury, but the team manager explained the omission to be a result of him catching cold - “Otherwise, ‘Ziraka’ is in good shape” - stated Abashidze.

Beziers’ Georgian fly-half Lasha Malaguridze also sustained a minor injury, but has made quick recovery and now prepares to travel to New Zealand.
