Webb Ellis Cup Touring Tbilisi

The most important trophy of the rugby world – Webb Ellis Cup started its Tbilisi tour yesterday.

In the morning of March 12, the RWC Trophy was displayed in the convention hall of Kiketi Iakob Gogebashvili School, where the school pupils greeted it with applause and thoroughly enjoyed the opportunity to take photos with it.

From 14:00 to 19:00 on the same day, the Webb Ellis Cup was on public display in the Museum of Sports of Georgia.

At 10:00-11:00 this morning, rugby fans could once again see the Cup at Shevardeni National Training Facility.

George Nijaradze, President of the Georgian Rugby Union: “I am most happy that Webb Ellis Cup was brought to Georgia and the public was given a chance to take a close look at it. This is all done in order to promote the Game, Rugby World Cup organizers try to make sure that the Webb Ellis Cup tours all the participant countries before the tournament. This and the fact that the live streaming of our Saturday's game will be available to the whole world, means that the attitude of international rugby community toward Georgia and Romania has changed dramatically.

“Everyone understands that these two teams have exceeded the European Nations Cup level. We discussed this issue during my recent visit to London, and I am confident that after the RWC 2015 the competition exposure of Georgia and Romania will be thoroughly reconsidered.

“As regards the upcoming game, I am sure all the fans understand its importance. The winner receives all the privileges plus the respect of the world rugby community and all the related benefits. The Saturday's match is going to be a crucial encounter of equally strong teams and I strongly believe that the fans will play the decisive role. I have no doubt that the crowd will fill the stadium.”

At 12:00 today, the Webb Ellis Cup was featured in the Noon Show of GDS TV Channel, and this evening the TV spectators will be able to see the Trophy in Arena Talk-show on National Public Broadcaster Channel 1. Tomorrow, the public will be able to see the Cup at the Midday Show of Rustavi-2 TV Channel.
