Lelos of Georgia turned 25

12-Sep-2014

Today it's 25th anniversary of the Lelos, Georgia national rugby side's inaugural game.

Indeed, the Lelos were the first Georgian representative team ever assembled in any sport (ball-games included)

Georgia hosted touring Zimbabwe in Kutaisi and won by 16-3 in heavy rain.

For the day, Georgia were clad in the national movement colours -
claret jerseys with black and white panels on the chest.

They wore Shevardeni - a Golden Falcon - as their crest
'cause present days' Borjghali (Rotating Sun) was viewed with suspicion by the authorities.

The team was made up of the best players from both Kutaisi and Tbilisi.
