Georgia v Tonga Test used as an Impact on European Coach Education in Tbilisi

10 delegates from Austria, Georgia, Latvia, Lithuania, Romania, Russia & Switzerland participated on Part 1 of an IRB/Rugby Europe Level 3 Accreditation Coaching Course, which was facilitated by IRB licensed Educators Olivier Baragnon (France), Neil Graham (Scotland) & RDM Douglas Langley.

The Course held 7th-9th November, has been 1 of 2 parallel courses started this year in Europe, the other having already completed its Part 1 in Madrid (July). The Course theme is “Analysis & Preparation” where participants practise their planning and delivery of coaching sessions and linked to improving their teams & players match performance. Delegates got to practise their new found skills on some of the U18 Georgian National Team. The Coaches were also given the chance to practise their observation and analysis skills whist attending the Georgia v Tonga test match.

Linked to this, the Georgian Head Coach Milton Haig, kindly spoke to the delegates about the team’s preparation and planning for this specific game. Delegates will now be further evaluated coaching their own teams whilst undertaking some analysis and planning exercises, before they return for Part 2 of the Course next year. Many thanks must go to the Georgian Union, especially George Tchumburidze for hosting and organising so well the Course and of course thanks to Neil & Olivier for the excellent work as Educators.
