Teams announced match day squad ahead to round 2

16-Jun-2015

Round two of the Tbilisi Cup comes just days after devastating floods tore through the Georgian capital claiming lives and washing away peoples homes. The Georgian Rugby Union have been very bullish in confirming that the Tbilisi Cup will continue.

Milton Haig, Head Coach of Georgia, said: "A real tragedy occurred with people losing their houses and even worse, family members. It is a time for all of us not involved in it to reflect and all of our thoughts and prayers go out to everybody that has been involved in this sad situation."

A minutes silence will be held before both matches and the Georgian flag will fly at half mast.

Uruguay and Emerging Ireland meet in the evening's first kick off at 17 00 at Avchala Stadium.

Uruguay, who will be in Pool A alongside England, Australia, Wales and Fiji at RWC 2015, will be looking to bounce back from their opening round defeat to Georgia. Los Terros, as they are nicknamed, went down 19-10 against the hosts, but had chances to win the game.

Pablo Lemoine, Uruguay's Head Coach, has made 12 changes to the side that played against Georgia on Saturday. He said: "It is going to be a tough game for us, Ireland play a faster game than Georgia so we will have to be very focussed in defence. It is great to be playing a side with so many good players as we prepare for the World Cup, it will be a good experience for our players. We have made changes to rotate the squad and allow all players some match time as they try to win a place in the World Cup squad."

Emerging Ireland come into the match off the back of a bonus point victory over Emerging Italy, thanks to a last minute try from full back Tiernan O'Halloran. The Irish will want to maintain their 100% record ahead of Sunday evening's eagerly anticipated match with Georgia.

Emerging Ireland Head Coach, Allen Clarke said: "We have made several changes to give guys an opportunity and also to freshen things up a little bit. We have got a strong team out; good players with good experience because we know it is going to be another level up against Uruguay. They have been together a long time, and I thought they were very unlucky against Georgia. We have done our homework and we are focussing on ourselves now."

Georgia come up against Emerging Italy in the second match of the evening with momentum off the back of Saturday's win. The hosts managed to win the game but lacked the clinical edge at crucial times when in scoring opportunities, which allowed the Uruguayans to stay in the match.

Head Coach, Milton Haig said: "We didn't play too badly on Saturday we just made mistakes at certain times. If we had been a little more clinical in our execution we could have scored a couple more tries. That is one of the things we have spoken about at the review. The focus will be to get our accuracy and our intensity a little more up there for a more sustained time. Emerging Italy have an aggressive forward pack and create a good platform to play off. We have to make sure we get our line speed right and keep our discipline."

Emerging Italy come into the game on the back of a 25-0 defeat to Emerging Ireland. There squad, made up of domestic Italian players, showed great tenacity in the second half of the match and it is that effort that Manager, Andrea Duodo, wants to see continue against Georgia.

He said: "We were pleased with the passion the players showed, especially in the second half.  Georgia will be a tough opponent, they have a chance to win the trophy so will be motivated to have a good game against us. The match will be a good chance for our young squad to prove to the coaches that they can step up to this level."
