The Lelos squad vs Tonga

17-Sep-2015

With 48 hours to go until Georgia faces Tonga in RWC 2015 pool C opener at Kingsholm stadium on September 19, Milton Haig named The Lelos’ match day 23 featuring much experienced core of players. It took the team long three and tire-some preparations phases consisted of numerous camps to reach the right condition and confidence for what is considered to be one of the most important pool matches.

Bombardier Pack

Referred to as one of the strongest scrums in the world, Georgia followed this reputation as Haig called for Mikheil Nariashvili, Jaba Bregvadze and David Zirakashvili to the first row. Kote Mikautadze and Giorgi Nemsadze will be the solid locks of the pack with fantastic trio of back rowers with Captain Mamuka Gorgodze at Number 8, Giorgi Tkhilaishvili and Victor Kolelishvili as flankers.

The Youngest of them all

18 years old scrum half Vasil Lobzhanidze will become the youngest player in tournaments history as he features in Haig’s starting XV for Georgia’s RWC 2015 first fixture, followed by Lasha Malaguradze as fly half. Famous for being great tacklers as well as creating good line breaks, duo of David Kacharava and Merab Sharikadze start at mid field with Giorgi Aptsiauri and Tamaz Mchedlidze at wings. Being at his fourth World Cup, experienced Georgian International with 85 caps behind his back, Merab Kvirikashvili will start as full back against Tonga.

“We are pleased to announce the first squad for the game against Tonga. Selection has been an on-going process through our warm-up games and during the training periods. We have picked a side that has a lot of experience and averages over a 40 caps per player.” Said Milton Haig “Its also a side that has represented Georgia consistently over the past 4 years and we are confident they will do everyone proud.

NOTE: Lasha Khmaladze, Alexandre Todua and David Kubriashvili were not considered for this match due to minor injuries
