Georgian, Argentinean and Uruguay Rugby Union Presidents During the Rugby World Cup 2015, have agreed that the Junior Lelos’ will tour South America to play four matches against their Argentine and Uruguayan peers. Considering Georgian Under 20’s will participate in the World Rugby Under 20 Championship in Manchester, the tour will serve as pre-tournament preparation for Junior Lelos.

The South American tour will last from February 16 to March 6, 2016, when The Junior Lelos will play two matches against Pumitas (Argentina U20) and two – against The Teritos (Uruguay U20).

Tour Fixtures:

The Pumitas vs The Junior Lelos
February 20, Buenos Aires
February 24, Rosario

The Teritos vs The Junior Lelos
February 28, Paysandu
March 4, Montevideo

“This is the first time we qualified for the World Rugby Under 20 Championship. And thus our pre-tournament preparation system has been altered. We are going to tour South America to play two fixtures against Argentina U20 and two more – against Uruguay U20.

“We would like to take our overseas players to this tour, but at this stage it is uncertain whether their clubs will be release them. Consequently, all four fixtures offer Georgian Domestic Championship (Big 10 and Junior A Division) players huge motivation and opportunity to make their way into the tournament selection,” said Georgia Under 20 coach Lado Kilasonia.

He added: “This tour is a big challenge for us. We will be able to see the players work as a team, because our previous selection which won the World Rugby Under 20 Trophy was a result of about four years’ work as they went through several junior international tournaments together; and now we have players coming from two different groups (U18 and U20) who do not have much experience of playing together.”

Under 20 coaching staff plans assemble the squad for two camps in January ahead to the tour with participation of East and West-Georgian Big 10 and Junior A Division club players.

”We are likely to have two short, 7 or 10-day camps. During this period, our main focus will be on playing techniques though with some S&C as well. After this we will analyse how efficiently players perform, how they integrate with the team and how quickly they absorb new information and make the final selection for the tour based on these factors. We are looking forward to use Georgian premiership Christmas break to discuss warm-up matches with several club sides.” - commented Lado Kilasonia while speaking about the upcoming training camps.

Before the stuff starts preparations for the tour, Junior Lelos have already started their pre-tournament preparations campaign in November with the Mental Toughness Course they took at Mukhrovani Special Forces Training Center.

”The Pumitas are a very strong team with a stable place among the favorites. Uruguay Under 20s also have a great deal of spirit and character, their performance is quick and efficient. We’ve seen during U20 Trophy that they use this character quite strongly. To sum it up, our players will face a lot of pressure during the tour and considering this, it is really important that our pre-championship preparation campaign started with a mental toughness course. As a result, the players will have more self-confidence, which is crucial for the upcoming fixtures and the Championship.” - added Lado Kilasonia.
