Rugby Europe | Georgia vs Spain

02-Mar-2017

As The Lelos are preparing for Rugby Europe Championship round 3 match to face Spain in Medina-Del-Campo, Milton Haig names match day squad with 48 hours to kick off.

Haig continues to give game time to new players, but taking into consideration the strength of the opposition, the squad is more balanced now.

Comparing to the squad from previous match against Germany, Georgian team will feature 8 new players in total for the starting fifteen. The squad also features two uncapped.

Kacharava back in shape

Giorgi Koshadze, Beka Gorgadze and Rezi Jinchvelashvili, who were brilliant in round two match will have a rest along with experienced Georgian back Lasha Malahguradze.

David Kacharava, who currently holds 96 international caps for Georgia has recovered from injuries and starts as 13.

Vasil Lobzhanidze and Lasha Khmaladze will start at number 9 and 10 on Saturday. Soso Matiashvili of Rugby Club Academia (Didi 10, Georgian Premiership), who is quite frequently selected for Georgia Sevens, will gain his first test cap for Georgia as he starts as right winger against Spain.

Mixing with Experienced Flavor

Kote Mikautadze of Montpelier starts in second row along with Giorgi Nemsadze, which will bring more experience into Georgia’s forwards pack. The hooker Jaba Bregvadze will sit at the bench, while Shalva Mamukashvili will put on The Lelos’ jersey for the fist time after June internationals. Lasha Lomidze moves to number 8 instead of Gorgadze as Otar Giorgadze moves in as flanker. Badri Liparteliani of Rugby Club Armazi (Didi 10) will wait for his chance to win first Georgian cap in subs.
