Haig talks about the importance of test against Italy

With two days left to go, Georgia is getting ready for Series opener against Italy in Florence on November 10. The Lelos head coach, Milton Haig is happy for the blend of experianced and young players in the Georgia squad for Saturday’s test.

“The squad for the Italy match reflects the importance of this game is for us. We have some very experienced players who will start this match, mixed with what we feel are some, less experienced that will add enthusiasm, energy and determination to prove they deserve to be there, which is excellent from a coaches’ point of view.

“Our substitution bench also has the same mix as we feel all 23 players will play a vital role on Saturday.” Says Haig while being happy for the return of the Captain - “It’s also great to have our Captain, Merab Sharikadze back in the team as his leadership has been something we have missed”

New Kid on the Street

“It’s a great opportunity for us to once again show the rugby world how Georgian Rugby has progressed, and in particular the decision makers within the Six Nations organization. We also clearly understand that we are the 'under dogs' going into the game, but it’s a position that we feel comfortable with.

“Italy are a Tier One Rugby Nation with a huge history in test rugby, Georgia are the 'new kids on the street' trying to create their own history. It’s going to be a 'battle' for sure but we are always happy when we are in a battle, maybe that’s when we are happiest!”
