U20 | the squad of 30 announced

01-Apr-2019

With 16 forwards and 14 backs, the Junior Lelos coaching staff named the squad of 30 for South African Tour/International Series. The international series will take place in Western Cape on 9, 13, 17 April and will serve as preparation for World Rugby U20 Championship 2019. Matches are scheduled accordingly to the U20 championship, with 4 days turn arounds after each round. Junior Lelos to play the hosts – Junior Boks, Los Pumitas of Argentina and Namibia XV.

There are four foreign based players in Georgia U20 squad for the series – but we also lack 3 players who play their rugby in France – Vano Karkadze (Aurillac), Gia Kharaishvili (Racing 92) and Zaur Tevdorashvili (Angouleme). Junior Lelos will be captained by Fly Half Tedo Abzhandadze, who joins the team after Rugby Europe Championship 2019. Abzhandadze has already gained 7 Senior International Caps for Georgia during the last 7 months.

“We are set for difficult test ahead in the series and I am sure will grow one head bigger after this tour. Playing against strong teams will identify lots of errors, which we will improve after we come back for the final camp before departing to Argentina for World Rugby U20s Championship. And I am sure, we will get close to those conditions we are looking forward to having at the tournament.

“The international series is a great opportunity for us, as we are going to face teams of a different style and traditions. Also, it is vastly important for our preparations that we are going to play with 4 days turn around, the same on U20 championship. We are also looking forward to play Namibia XV, this will be very interesting as it is a senior team. Obviously, we will have different physical challenges at that game, as we will play against senior team.” Says Ilia Maisuradze, Junior Lelos head coach.
